The official price of the controller is 239.99 € and I will tell you my sincere opinion on whether it is worth buying or not.
AThe PS5 DualSense is, without a doubt, one of the best controllers created by PlayStation for any of its consoles. Never has a PlayStation controller been so comfortable and why not say it, so ahead of its time, because the sensations that the controller transmits are unique, thanks to its haptic vibration or its adaptive triggers. In this context, PlayStation wanted to go even further and launch the DualSense Edge, a pro controller widely criticized on the market for its price, € 239.99 in official RRP.
In this article I will be very clear and very sincere, We will decide if it is worth it or not to pay what this order costs or if you are the player profile that needs it.
First sensations with the DualSense Edge in the hands
The first thing you notice when you take it out of the box the DualSense Edge is that it is a premium product. The remote control comes in a hard case where, in addition to the remote control itself, all its accessories are included, so that we can exchange the parts of the remote control and keep all the elements that we are not going to use tidy.
But not only in the packaging, it shows that we are in front of a real DualSense taken to another level, except that the feel itself and the materials have a better construction. The controller has the ideal weight and on the back the grip is much better than the basic controller because it has a rougher surface. The construction is much more elaborate and you can see it without having to connect the controller to the console.
What buttons does this DualSense Edge have? Here’s what you need to know:
- Starting from the front, the remote control has as a novelty the possibility of set up different user profiles and quickly switch between them during a game. These buttons sit below the joysticks and although they cannot be mapped (they are the only ones we are not allowed to modify) they allow us to change through a set of button layouts in an instant.
- The bone handles can be removedso that we can change them, clean them or replace them both with others and with those already included depending on whether we prefer them to have the original shape or to be concave.
- At the back we have on one side some physical buttons at the height of the triggers that allow us to change the path of the trigger at any timebeing able to shorten it and achieve faster movements with them.
- And on the other are the additional buttonswhere we can add two levers or two tabs, or even mix them together, so that we have two hotkeys behind it.
- In this direction the DualSense Edge has 2 rear buttons and not 4 as pro or scuff-proof controls typically introduce. This is designed in this way so that the average user can get started in the professional field but without wanting to go crazy because playing with 4 buttons on the back is quite complex.
The DualSense Edge is much more customizable by software as we will see later, but also the options offered by the controller with physical buttons are very interesting. It is also designed to make any change very easy, you can change buttons and select them in seconds.
What about the battery?
One of the controversies that surrounds the DualSense Edge in addition to its price, is the battery life. In effect, this controller’s battery lasts less than the original DualSense. Indeed, with the technology of this more professional controller, it is impossible to introduce a larger battery, which affects something and reduces its use time. The change isn’t significant and you might not even notice much worse battery, but if you were expecting more battery, I can confirm that it won’t be.
Many possible configurations, a big plus
The DualSense has an excellent software setup. That is to say yesIf the controller is already good on the outside, the sensations inside cannot be better. From the console menu we are allowed to customize many other aspects, map commands, assign and create profiles, adjust joystick sensitivity or change vibration, sound and LED levels.
Product-wise, work has been done to make the DualSense Edge feel like a professional, premium product both externally and internally.
Is the DualSense Edge expensive?
I will be very honest on this point. The DualSense Edge is not an expensive controller for what it offers, especially if we take a look at other controllers in this segment.. Without going any further, I simultaneously analyze the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro and has a starting price of €299 (without having haptic vibration) or the Scuf from 249 € on its website and depending on how you configure it, you can take it at even absurd prices.
What do I mean by that? Well, the DualSense Edge isn’t an expensive product, it’s a premium product.. Just as you can go to a restaurant with your partner for a romantic dinner and pay €30 per person, you can also spend €80 per person, it always depends on what you are looking for. If you look at everything the controller offers and the price of competition controllers for the system, you realize that the word expensive is not the word. Rather whether or not it is necessary to spend so much money on a controller.
So is it worth it?
For me in a yes, this DualSense Edge seeks to take gaming to another level and it succeeds. But now that he deserves it, it’s not that you need him. I consider this controller to be very interesting, it manages to get out of the anecdotal Dualsense and takes its virtues to another level. But many of these virtues may only appeal to you if you’re a player deeply dedicated to games like Fortnite, Warzone, or titles from the competitive scene.. Personally I like to play something “silent” like The Last of Us, God of War or now Hogwarts Legacy more, maybe I don’t need so much control.
It is also possible to think that maybe in the long run it’s worth investing in this DualSense Edge Since the quality is much better, it may not mean having to change the remote control 3-4 times in the next 6 years if your use is very intensive. By testing this for 10 days, I can’t tell you, I don’t know how the materials will behave in the long term, I know they are better materials and you can even change the controllers for new ones, although going through the box and acquiring them for 24.99 €.
In short, that I roll up more than a blind. The DualSense Edge is worth it, its price corresponds to what it offers, but it is necessary to know if you need it according to your style of play or if you do not have it.. For any questions, I can also help you in the comment box!
