Pets can be of all sizes and colors. Some like cats and dogs, but others prefer horses and donkeys.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) announced a fair this weekend to adopt 20 mustang horses and 10 wild burros in Castaic, California.
These animals are part of the BLM’s program to “place surplus wild animals into private care through its adoption and sale programs, as well as successful partnerships with organizations across the country.” This will be the first show organized with the LASD.
The BLM is rounding up wild mustangs and burros from public lands to “protect animal and grassland health,” the statement said.
Currently, “more than 80,000 horses and donkeys roam the public lands, which is about three times greater than the land’s capacity to support them,” they reported.
Through the adoption of these animals, the BLM seeks to control the wild population of these animals and place them in new owners.
This weekend’s event will be held at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center located at 26983 Tapia Canyon Road in Castaic. Bidding starts at $125.
