You can’t imagine how happy it makes me that”Cyberpunk: Edge Runners“became a winner of Best Anime of the Year for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards taking place today, March 4, 2023. The ceremony honored all past 2022 anime and things as they are: almost everyone fell for “Shingeki no Kyojin” and “Kimetsu no Yaiba” without much surprise. Until the surprise finally arrives with the final price (especially since Edgerunners is a Netflix anime).

Personally, I feel like these rewards don’t quite work for a very clear reason: every year we have anime of “Kimetsu no Yaiba”, “Shingeki no Kyojin” and other great fandoms that they end up winning ALL the prizes that more or less deserve them. The same way there’s a rulebook to not include fall season anime (hence the absence of “Chainsaw Man” and “Bocchi the Rock!”, for example), maybe we should -we’re starting to come up with an idea to keep these rewards from turning from a celebration of anime to just an annual franchise monopoly.
