it’s unfair that Sweet Tooth: The Deer Boy It is not considered one of the most important series in the Netflix catalog, because this adaptation of the comics of Jeff Lemire It’s brutal, it knows how to combine the best of science fiction, youthful adventures and dystopia, giving us plots that teenagers and older fans of the genre love.
Its first season was a small success, gathering ratings that helped renew it for a second batch of chapters that will premiere Thursday, April 27, 2023 on Netflix. Before all of you, I had access to the first 5 episodes of season 2 of Sweet Tooth: The deer boy, and although the script sometimes gets a bit heavyit is also appreciated that the plots have settled and that we got attached to certain characters that go beyond the screen.
Sweet Tooth Season 2 Highlights: The Deer Boy
Its frame is unbeatable
It’s not easy at all to make a post-apocalyptic future believable, not even with a budget depending on the project. But Sweet Tooth: The Deer Boy continues to enter its second season through the eyes, with a gorgeous selection of set pieces and special effects that meet the brand.
The resource of flashbacks
I’m not a person who likes this narrative device, but in Season 2 of Sweet Tooth: The Deer Boy works and provides content at the plot level. As I will explain later, the scenario is conservative and it is in these returns to the past that we progress in the plot and make interesting discoveries.
Perfect balance between dark and light
Efforts are noted netflix there CC make a series for all audiences, but not without resorting to violence and foul language when necessary. This is not a forbidden series for the little ones in the house, but they will have trouble in certain sequences. At least, the script does a wonderful job of striking the perfect balance between light and dark, between sci-fi and the complexity of the genreand constant homages to the 80s and 90s adventure genre that the youngest in the house loved so much.
Sweet Tooth: The Deer Boy Season 2 Weaknesses
The script sometimes stagnates and becomes heavy
At the introduction of flashbacks we add the feeling that the plot of Sweet Tooth: The Deer Boy It doesn’t move as fast as it did in the first season. Moreover, these returns to the past are what I liked the most a fairly conservative second batch of chapters. In the main timeline, some subplots that contribute little and characters that come and gogiving the impression that 8 chapters (I have 3 left to see) lasting 1 hour was perhaps too much.
Sweet Tooth: The Deer Boy repeats the success in its second season
It is obvious that season 2 of Sweet Tooth: The deer boy is made to please those who have already enjoyed the first. There is no drastic change as is the case with other series, but at least the spirit is maintained to want to be a product of netflix different, well produced and for all audiences. At a time when the series become adults almost by obligation (like Stranger Things), still welcomes a project like Sweet Tooth: The Deer Boy.
