Buddy Daddies: Will there be a season 2 of the anime?

Every now and then the anime industry leaves us with a surprise hit which, precisely for this reason, absolutely no one expected. Regarding the beginning of 2023, I think this title is one that clearly belongs to “dads friends“to date. What started as a potential alternative to wait”Spy x Family” ended up being much more than that, offering its own story full of moments of humor, but also drama and action. And with all that it has been, I wonder: Will there be a season 2 of “Buddy Daddies”?

The odds of there being a Season 2 for the Buddy Daddies anime

Hay lots to keep in mind regarding “Buddy Daddies”, but these are by far the most:

• To begin with, a key factor regarding Buddy Daddies as an anime is that it is precisely about a completely original production. This means that there is no manga or light novel behind which to depend the level of adaptation.
• The first point has two readings: on the one hand, it is always possible to create more content since it is not limited to adapting anything in particular… but on the other hand its popularity is limited only to those who have seen the anime.

• In case there are those who don’t know, the anime makers are sound works. At the moment they only have the anime planned for Switch to Moccasin after completing Buddy Daddies, so initially the studio is free to return to IP in the future. Besides, being an original anime this is something PA Works would indeed be interested in, because it is for this type of work and not for “simple” adaptations that they receive the most financial compensation.
• On another side, Does it make any story sense that there’s a Buddy Daddies season 2? I see several possibilities in this case:
  • The anime’s ending brings us straight to a jump in time in which we can see Miri as a teenager with her two “potatoes”. This one has several readings:
    • The anime could easily be extended Fill all these years of ellipsis with stories that are precisely shown to us in photographs, like Miri having her first backpack or leaving kindergarten.
    • The anime might as well ‘reactivate’ from this time jump point if the organization resumes its threats several years later. This would obviously be more of a challenge given how long Rei and Kazuki have been out of action.
