The week of March 6 is dedicated to the consumer, and the California Bar would like to remind all Spanish speakers that they have a dedicated person to help them free of charge throughout the year.

This is a position created specifically to support the immigrant community, since many of them are looking for immigration lawyers and when they have a problem, they do not know where to turn or how to proceed.

If you’ve had trouble with an immigration attorney, you’ve probably wondered who can help you report it or have it investigated? And it is that facing a lawyer can be intimidating, but precisely for this, a person has been appointed to be an intermediary for the Latino public.

“I’m a bridge between what Barra offers and the public, and they shouldn’t be ashamed to ask for help, because that’s what we’re here for, and best of all, it’s all free,” said Enrique Zúñiga, a public trust. intermediary at Barra of California Attorneys.

Zúñiga explained that he knows firsthand what the Latino community is going through.

“All my life I’ve lived in Boyle Heights, my family is immigrants from Mexico, from Mexicali,” he added.

And he added that, for this reason, he understands very well the problems faced by Latino immigrants, who sometimes do not speak English and need legal help, but he does not know if those who claim to be experts really are.

“Truth is a system that is unknown, but through this program I can answer questions if someone is a lawyer or licensed in California, and if they have had a negative experience

I can help you file a complaint against this lawyer,” Zúñiga said.

Even if someone tricked you into pretending to be a lawyer, they can support you.

“If you were victimized by someone who claimed to be a lawyer but did not have a license, you can also file a complaint here,” he added.

To contact Zúñiga, you can email him directly at ptl@calbar.ca.gov or call 213-765-1000 and have an agent put you through to him. And remember, before hiring a lawyer, always check to see if they are licensed first, on the law society’s website, calbar.ca.gov
