The Cato Drawbridge on Jupiter will be the first to feature a state-of-the-art video camera system that is part of an advanced artificial intelligence system.
Palm Beach County authorized an investment of two million dollars to place these cameras on the eight bridges under its control.
The idea is that these cameras detect any movement above and below the bridge and if detected an alarm will alert the person in charge of the drawbridge.
This initiative follows several accidents that have occurred in recent months, the most dramatic being that of a woman who died after the bridge began to rise while she was crossing on foot with her bicycle.
The state government is also taking other initiatives regarding drawbridge safety throughout the state of Florida.
