Harry Potter: Warner Bros and HBO Max preparing for TV Series

Globe Live Media, Monday, January 25, 2021

A television series set in the Harry Potter universe is reportedly in pre-production for the HBO Max platform from production company Warner Bros.

And HBO Max and Warner Bros do not validate the information that has ignited social networks recently, the sources of the American media The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are unanimous. Multiple conversations with several film industry writers to explore various ideas to bring Harry Potter on the small screen debuted. No screenwriter or actor is currently attached to the project as conversations are still at an extremely early stage and no deal has been reached.

The Harry Potter license is one of the most popular of all time, the seven books of the Saga of the Wizard have sold more than 500 million copies worldwide. A record that should be surpassed very soon by Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga. The eight films grossed nearly $ 8 billion. Note that the Fantastic Beasts franchise, which takes place in the 1920s, has two films to date, knowing that the third of the five films will be released in 2022.

Harry Potter, Movie and Television Hell License Rights

Novelist JK Rowling is in full control of the franchise and obviously has her say in everything to do with it. In 2016, NBC Universal entered into a seven-year contract with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution for the cable and streaming rights to Wizarding World. This agreement, which expires in April 2025, includes digital initiatives as well as content and events for theme parks. Executives at Warner Bros also struck a side deal that allowed all Harry Potter episodes to air briefly on HBO Max when the service launched last May. The films left the platform after three months and will return to Peacock, NBC Universal’s recently launched channel, on a date to be determined later this year.
