Building and upgrading your Starfield ship will naturally become a big part of the next space game from the RPG veterans behind Fallout and Skyrim at Bethesda Games. While we wait for more news, the eager community is scanning every inch of gameplay we have, looking for a minimal amount of potential new information, and it looks like you’ll be able to loot loot directly from destroyed ships after Starfield. space battles.
With Bethesda saying to expect Starfield release date news “very soon” and plans underway for a full, standalone Starfield showcase courtesy of Microsoft, it seems likely we’ll be inundated with new footage. to satisfy those interstellar cravings. In the meantime, however, eagle-eyed enthusiasts have discovered a very intriguing UI element that could tell us a lot about how space looting might work.
During a Starfield gameplay trailer, a sequence showing space battles against the Crimson Fleet Ghost ships, one of the Starfield factions you’ll encounter on your travels, there is a moment where the player explodes . splits one ship and immediately turns into fire on another.
Between the explosion, the quick focus change, and the overall speed of everything in action, it’s easy to miss, but pause at the right time and there’s actually a diamond-shaped “loot box” icon. very cool. the helmet destroyed. This seems like pretty clear evidence that you will be able to get resources from defeated enemy ships.
There’s still no clear indication of how you’ll go about picking things up. Maybe you can just press a button as you pass and suck everything straight into storage on the fly, or maybe you need to park and pull the resources straight. Given Bethesda’s history, the obvious method would be a floating context menu when you zoom in that lets you manually select components, but they may opt for a more complicated method than their previous games.
Either way, it’s another testament to the Starfield community’s commitment to removing every last info box while waiting for more news. You can see the time between 11:43 and 11:45 in the trailer below, but you’ll probably want to slow down the playback speed or go frame by frame (this can be done using the keys on your keyboard) if you want to have a clear overview.
