Much has been made of Square Enix’s apparent reluctance to release games on Xbox in 2023, and today’s announcement only added to that narrative, with LIVE LIVE it will now come to PlayStation and PC in April 2023.
This means the beloved RPG will be available on Nintendo Switch (released in 2022), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC from next month, but sadly there’s no sign of an Xbox version in the works.
“In 1994, the original LIVE A LIVE was released for the Super Nintendo, exclusively in Japan. It was a very different kind of role-playing game: instead of telling one continuous epic tale, it focused on eight stories spread over time , from prehistory to the distant future.
This new game resurrects the classic game for modern audiences around the world with the stunning HD-2D visual style featured in OCTOPATH TRAVELER II and a beautifully rearranged soundtrack fully supervised by original composer, Yoko Shimomura.
As things stand, we don’t expect to see any Square Enix games coming to Xbox in 2023, and the likes of abandoned, Theatrical final measuring line there Octopath Voyager II not all of them made it to the platform when it launched earlier this year.
Of course, things could change and we could see a Square Enix game appear one day – it’s only been a few months since Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion released on Xbox after all, but so far 2023 has been barren on Xbox.
