Wreckfest, the brutal car racing game, will arrive on Sony’s next-gen console on June 1. Publisher THQ Nordic has confirmed that the upgrade on PS5 for players who already have the game on PS4 will be chargeable.

The arrival of Wreckfest on the PlayStation 5 we tested is good news. Next-gen console gamers don’t have much to eat yet. Wreckfest is a somewhat unusual car racing game released in 2019 for consoles. In addition to the racing aspect, Wreckfest places great emphasis on collisions and destruction through realistic physics simulation.

However, the release of Wreckfest on PS5 is not good news for everyone. Many players are already expressing their disappointment and dissatisfaction on the networks. And for good reason, publisher THQ Nordic has announced that the upgrade on PS5 for players who already have the PS4 version of the game will be paid.

For example, Ratchet & Clank (2016) which you can still grab for free today on PS4 will get a free 60 FPS update on the PS5 within a few weeks .

Upgrading Wreckfest on PS5 will cost € 9.99

THQ Nordic announced on Twitter that: “Wreckfest is coming to PlayStation 5 on June 1, 2021. Owners of Wreckfest on PS4 can upgrade to the enhanced version on PS5 for $ 9.99 / € 9.99“.

You can imagine that some PS4 gamers are disappointed to have to go back to the cash register if they want to enjoy Wreckfest in 4K at 60 FPS on Sony’s new console. Other new features in the port are 24 player servers, better textures, improved visual effects, and “dynamic dirt“.

The publisher explained their decision on the paid upgrade: ”  We, the publisher, are charging for upgrades to support the developers who have spent the last few weeks adding new technology and improvements to the game.” He also said that the Xbox Series X / S will also receive a paid upgrade later in the year.

Of course, some players agree to pay ten euros to play Wreckfest on PS5. One of them, for example, said that: “  a job well done pays off. I have the PS4 version and will buy the PS5 upgrade”.

Opinions are therefore very divided, but that does not prevent the publisher from having received a wave of criticism. Finally, the PS5 version of Wreckfest due out June 1 will sell for $40 .
