Pre-downloading games is a practice that many people prefer to do so that they don’t have to wait for the game to install after release. Many people have done this with Atomic Heart, only to find a massive game update when they first went to launch it. Here’s what we know about the big 67GB update for Atomic Heart.

Why is there a 67 GB update for Atomic Heart?
Unfortunately, we haven’t seen any official information regarding the giant Atomic Heart update so far. That being said, the update does not add anything to the installation you had before. Instead, it deletes files and replaces them with new ones, keeping the entire installation within the 70 GB range.
This makes us think that there might be unnecessary files introduced with the initial version of the game that the developers wanted to make sure to remove in order to avoid various bugs and issues or to make the game a bit better. Unfortunately, this is only a guess we have of what happened.
While the above is our best conclusion for the big update, players are understandably frustrated that they have to re-download the game after pre-installing it. Not everyone has good internet speeds, so you may end up waiting a long time to play due to installation. Additionally, it will affect their internet bill if they are subject to a data cap, which will also hurt their wallet.
Mundfish has yet to comment on this additional update, so it’s unlikely we know the full reasoning behind this update. We believe there should be no more downloads like this for the game in the future.
