Tchia is a stylish action-adventure game from developer Awaceb. It was originally revealed at The Game Awards in 2020, appearing again at Sony’s PlayStation Showcase in September 2021. However, the game’s release date won’t be revealed until the first State of Play event in 2023.

Sony’s first State of Play 2023 announced that Tchia will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC March 21st. The PC version will arrive exclusively, at least initially, through the Epic Games Store. The title was originally slated for release in the spring of 2022, but it was pushed back to allow for an extra degree of polish.

The game sends players on an adventure emphasizing exploration and physics-based interactions. The title protagonist is able to inhabit almost any object and animal in the game world. Even such harmless objects as a flashlight or a watermelon can be controlled. Other game features include sailing, rock climbing, and even playing a full ukulele in-game. Tchia players can also express themselves through an extensive character customization feature. While the actions performed by the protagonist are fantasy-based, the game’s attire is more reality-based.

The game’s main narrative concerns the titular girl named Tchia who travels across the tropical archipelago to find her kidnapped father. The aesthetic of the title is heavily inspired by the animated style and shading of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Although the world itself is fictional, it draws heavily on New Caledonian culture. New Caledonia is a French territory in the South Pacific made up of several islands. The development team is based in New Caledonia and Tchia will be Awaceb’s first title.
