Chained Echoes is a retro-inspired RPG that features a classic turn-based combat system, pixel art graphics, and an immersive story. As usual, players embark on a journey to save the world from an ancient evil by controlling a team of heroes and battling through various challenging dungeons and bosses. Fans of the genre may recognize one of these heroes, Tomke, as the “Blue Wizard” from Chained Echoes, as Quina Quen from Final Fantasy IX, or Kimahri from Final Fantasy X. Blue Wizards typically learn from enemy abilities that they meet, and Tomke is no exception. Tomke can learn abilities from specific “cannable” enemies. Read on to find out how to unlock new abilities for Tomke by defeating canned enemies in Chained Echoes.

How to use Uncanny Encounter in Chained Echoes
Tomke starts out with just one unique ability: Uncanny Encounter. Unlike other characters, as you level up, you won’t learn new abilities. You can only learn new abilities by using the Uncanny Encounter ability which works on selected enemies in Chained Echoes. We’ve provided a full list of these enemies and the abilities they teach below.

With Tomke in your party, when you encounter an enemy that can be canned, you’ll want to nerf it by reducing its health as much as possible without defeating it (similar to reducing a Pokemon’s health before catching it in a Pokeball). Only in this case, instead of a Poke Ball, you will use a can.

The Uncanny Encounter ability has three tiers, with the lowest requiring you to debuff an enemy below 25% health and the highest tier only requiring 40% or less health. There is also an attachment, the Can Machine, which can be obtained and allows Tomke to use his ability on canned enemies with 50% health or less to learn his ability. Once you weaken the enemy below the current odd encounter requirement, you can use the ability to “cunning” the enemy and learn a new ability. If the ability fails on a cannable target, you may need to lower the enemy’s health further and try again.
Where to find all canned enemies in Chained Echoes
There are a total of 15 cannable enemies in Chained Echoes, each with a unique ability for Tomke to learn through the use of Uncanny Encounter. We’ve put together a full list of these enemies, where you can find them, and the abilities Tomke will learn when he uses the Uncanny Encounter ability on Chained Echoes.
