The Digital Foundry team has finally studied how Hogwarts Legacy performs on all console platforms, and you can see why it took so long! The outlet not only set out to cover release day builds of the game instead of pre-release code, but also tested 21(!) modes on three consoles.

The day our review went live, we mentioned that the Xbox Series X has five general modes, but that doesn’t count the fact that you can actually unlock FPS for four of those modes on the Series X. and the PS5, nearly doubling the amount of options available on those machines. The Xbox Series S is also covered by DF, and this console contains three modes in total.

As you can see in the review video, the outlet shows mixed results from nearly every Hogwarts Legacy mode on both Xbox consoles. None of the options available seem completely perfect, with the 30FPS fidelity mode providing the most stable experience.

“Not a clean bill of health in terms of performance, with worrying frame rate issues on Xbox consoles that can hopefully be fixed in due course. That’s not to say the PlayStation 5 is perfect. , but it’s clearly much more.” stable in its main visual options.

Performance aside, the DF team praises the game’s overall visual style, which does a fantastic job of translating the look of the movies into video game form. Harry Potter fans: despite some persistent performance issues, this game is for you!

Ultimately, Hogwarts Legacy is a beautiful, expansive piece of fan-service with a level of visual achievement likely to seriously impress those deeply involved in the wizarding world.”
