Fnatic returns to the charge. It is one of the organizations with the most weight and its own name on the European scene, both in VALORANT and in other electronic sports. But things aren’t going so well for them competitively, at least internationally.
Last year they managed to become champions of the VCT Challengers summer split, defeating FPX in the Grand Finals. They were the ones who were called upon to lead EMEA to the top, but in the end they didn’t get a good result in Copenhagen or the Champions League. Now they want to start from scratch and change that.
New year, new opportunities
Last season Fnatic managed to create plenty to talk about, outdoing themselves in a Challengers that started off on the right foot. They finished first in Group B in the spring, and seemed to be candidates, but two losses, against FPX and against G2 in the Playoffs, left them in third place.
After that they went to Reykjavik Masterswhere they could not pass the group stage and were eliminated by the Japanese Zeta division. They made changes to the team, and in the summer they destroyed everyone. Nobody could beat them this summer and they became champions, being EMEA’s hope at the Copenhagen Masters and in the Champions League.
However, FPX, who made a spectacular comeback and ended up winning the Copenhagen tournament, was the one who got in his way, with a reverse sweep., ending English hopes. Now, at Lock In, they can reverse that history.
The new VALORANT tournament, which kicks off the 2023 season, is an all or nothing continuous. In their first match, they will face an entire group of Sentinelswho arrives wanting to show that beyond the name, they can do great things internationally.
But it’s not just the sentries who are their greatest concern. If they beat them, Fnatic will have to fight other big names in the scene who are on their side of the draw, such as Fury, FUT Esports or 100 Thieves. Luckily for them, other big rivals, like NaVi, KR or Leviatn, They can only touch them in the semi-finals.
