Iron Gate’s expansive Viking survival game Valheim is now available as part of the March 2023 Xbox Game Pass lineup, and we’ve taken a look to see how this one fares on the Xbox Series. X and S at launch.

Given the PC game’s origins, we weren’t sure exactly how the Xbox version would turn out. Although we have only tested the opening of the game so far, we are happy to report that it supports a performance option in both Xbox Series X and S. Even better, Valheim will soon have a third “Balanced” option on Xbox!

Here’s what Iron Gate Studio co-founder Henrik Törnqvist told Xbox Wire today:

“On Xbox Series X | S, there will be different loyalty modes. At launch, it will be Quality (targeting Hi-Fi at 30 FPS) and Performance (targeting 60 FPS). We also plan to add the balanced mode in one of the next patches (aiming for 40 FPS, but higher fidelity in performance).”

You can take a look at the ‘Quality’ and ‘Performance’ modes now available on Xbox Series X | S in our comparison video above, before deciding which way to experience Valheim when you jump on Xbox Game Pass.

What do you think is the best way? Let us know if you’ll be playing Valheim below!
