original story: Far Cry 5 celebrates its fifth anniversary this month, and to celebrate, the Ubisoft development team will be adding a “highly requested feature” for players on current-gen consoles, as announced on Blood.
For now, Ubisoft hasn’t specified exactly what this feature is, but it’s safe to say that it includes some sort of 60FPS upgrade for current-gen consoles. Smoother frame rates are generally a high priority for Xbox Series X and S gamers, and we think this update will likely deliver that one way or another.
“For the next three weeks, celebrate the 5th anniversary with us. Stay tuned for what’s to come, including a much-requested feature for next-gen consoles.”
There’s more evidence that some kind of frame rate patch is coming as well. Seen by content creator the game testerFar Cry 5’s FPS Boost feature has been disabled on Xbox Series X | S, meaning players can no longer enable 60FPS through this program.
Fps boost in Far Cry 5 disabled… Will we get a native next-gen update soon?…#xbox #XboxSeriesX #XboxSeriesS #Very far #Farcry5 #Ubisoft pic.twitter.com/RNjyDxBoGg— Maurice Xbox, Nintendo and PlayStation Tester (@TheGamesTester) March 15, 2023
FPS Boost for Far Cry 5 only managed 60 FPS when the resolution was lowered to its base Xbox One number, which sits below 1080p. Any suitable next-gen upgrade replacement for this will likely increase that number on Xbox Series X and S.
We’re not quite sure if Ubisoft will make this a full next-gen game release, but that seems less likely given the team is teasing it as a “feature” and nothing more. We’ll know more over the next three weeks, when Ubisoft celebrates the game’s fifth anniversary.
