tomb Raider 2013 reboot writer Rhianna Pratchett said she hopes to see more diversity and representation in the franchise in the future. The Tomb Raider games recently became the property of the Embracer/Crystal Dynamics group, with unconfirmed reports later claiming that Amazon had purchased the Embracer intellectual property.
Tomb Raider games should explore ‘roads less traveled’
In an interview with Eurogamer, Pratchett said that while he doesn’t know what Crystal Dynamics is doing, he thinks the series will and should have more diversity and representation in the future, exploring “not so great paths borrowed”.
“A good writer wants to address issues like sexuality and diversity in all its forms,” Pratchett said before clarifying that he’s not just talking about sexual orientation. She thinks the representation of background, ability and age is equally important.
“Hopefully Crystal, or whoever works on the franchise, is more diverse with representation in the future,” Pratchett added. “I think the franchise can handle a bit of that. And I think it will go in that direction.”
Pratchett teased that fans are “gonna see some cool stuff” in the Tomb Raider franchise going forward. Although he doesn’t know any secrets, he revealed that there are “lots of different Tomb Raider weapons” in the works.
