Super Mario Bros.: The Movie turned out to be a huge box office success. Setting a new record for best opening for an animated feature film, Super Mario Bros.: The Movie grossed hundreds of millions of dollars, despite polarized reviews from the press.
The success of the film surprised many, and one of them is the creator of Mario himself, Shigeru Miyamoto. Speaking to the Japanese press recently (thanks, VGC) shortly before the film’s release there, the gaming legend had this to say: “I expected this movie to do well too (like the Super Nintendo World theme park), but I was really surprised that it went beyond what I could have imagined when it finally did. got out.”

Miyamoto also revealed that the Japanese script for Super Mario Bros. : The Movie is independently run, which means it won’t just be a copy of the international version of the movie.
