The data is inside, and HBO’s The Last of Us Season 1 Finale broke the show’s previous ratings records. This is despite the Oscar competition, a testament to the quality and reception of the TV show.
The Last of Us season 1 finale drew 8.2 million viewers
As noted by Variety, The Last of Us Season 1 finale episode drew 8.2 million viewers, the highest ever for the series. While it couldn’t beat HBO’s House of the Dragon based on viewership alone, The Last of Us saw a surge in viewership throughout the season, which House of the Dragon could not achieve.
In fact, House of the Dragon lost viewership in Season 1, though its finale performance was marred by the episode’s first online leak.
Now that The Last of Us Season 1 is over, HBO has revealed that Episodes 1-6 are averaging 30.4 million viewers, with Episode 1 hitting 40 million viewers and counting. Additionally, the show set a new record for HBO Max in Latin America and Europe, becoming the most-watched show of all time in both regions.
Suffice to say, The Last of Us got off to a fantastic start. The show finally broke the curse of video game adaptations, making it a prime example. Hoping Resident Evil took notes.
