The new Big Ambitions city-building game is the perfect storm of classic GTA, Cities Skylines and House Flipper, all wrapped up in an early access experience you won’t want to miss.
Clearly drawing inspiration from Rockstar’s 2009 GTA: Chinatown Wars, players are immersed in the ever-changing and expanding New York City with the goal of creating a sprawling corporate masterpiece.
“Grow from nothing to New York’s greatest businessman starting small businesses or slowly building huge corporations as you wish,” reads the game’s official description on Steam, and that sentiment is reflected in the tape. -early access announcement.
Guided by a New York local, he is shown the narrator’s first gift shop, as well as his squalid apartment. Next, we see his fast food restaurant which quickly became an “overnight success”. As his business grew, he remembers “sitting and watching the money come in,” moving to own large parts of town.
With the top-down camera and brilliant animations of GTA: Chinatown Wars and the intricate gambling of Cities: Skylines, Big Ambitions is the perfect mix of old and new. There’s even a bit of house flipping, as you can customize the interior of your new office spaces to fit your larger vision.
As someone who spent her childhood wondering what The Sims 4 mods would make my home prettier, the combination of customization and management certainly makes high ambitions more appealing to me than more intense management sims. Oh, and there’s a pink sports car, so that’s about it.
Big Ambitions is coming to Steam Early Access on March 10. It’s the product of the team of developers behind the simulation game Startup Company, which launched in April 2020 and keeps a “very positive” review on Steam. You can list it here and check out the upcoming silver and gold DLC, which gives you access to a few different features, including new cars (maybe even the pink one!)
