The Last of Us HBO is bombarded by critics again
In a move that won’t surprise anyone given the content of the episode, The Last of Us ‘Left Behind’ is bombarded by trolls. This follows a similar pattern to the series’ third episode, “Long, Long Time”.
Both episodes have a prominent queer representation. “Long, Long Time” shows the story of Bill and Frank, and “Left Behind” shows the blossoming romance between Riley and Ellie. “Left Behind” and “Long, Long Time” are the series’ lowest-rated episodes so far, at 7.7 and 8.0 respectively.
Although the ratings of the episodes are still correct, the number of 1 star reviews is very disproportionate compared to previous episodes. For example, “Left Behind” has nearly 3,000 1-star user reviews compared to 500 for the previous episode, while “Long, Long Time” has 52,000 1-star reviews.
Storm Reid, the actress who played Riley on ‘Left Behind,’ spoke in an interview with Variety about the homophobic backlash to the show, saying, “There’s so many other things in the world that need to be s ‘worry. I think caring about who people love is just absurd to me. I don’t get it, I never will.”
