Credible reports have surfaced online that The Last of Us: Factions, in addition to a PS5 release, may also be expecting a PlayStation 4 release.
Until now, everyone assumed that The Last of Us: Factions, Naughty Dog’s next online shooter, would launch exclusively on PlayStation 5. However, it turns out that the game will most likely also come to PS4.
- The source of these reports is a job advertisement posted on the developer’s website.
- Thanks to this we learned that Naughty Dog was looking for a person to test the multiplayer mode. Among the requirements, familiarity with the PS4 and PS5 systems was listed, suggesting the game is also targeting Sony’s next-gen console.
- No specific game was mentioned in the offer, but it almost certainly refers to The Last of Us: Factions. No other multiplayer projects from the studio have yet been officially announced, and while there are some in the works, they’ll be released late enough that they’re unlikely to hit Sony’s older consoles.
Releasing The Last of Us: Factions on PS4 also makes sense, as it will give the game a wider playerbase, which is crucial for multiplayer titles. It’s also worth remembering that the game has been in development since at least 2020, so the existence of a PlayStation 4 version isn’t much of a surprise.
Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the game at the moment. What is known is that despite the lack of a story campaign, this will be the biggest project in Naugty Dog’s history. The Last of Us: Part II Code Content mention Regarding the abandoned Battle Royale mode, many expect The Last of Us: Factions to offer this same gameplay variant, but it is not a foregone conclusion, as the concept of the authors may have changed since.
There are also rumors that the game may use a free model. Plus, there’s a good chance that in addition to the console release, the game will also live to see a PC release.
