IO Interactive’s Hitman series of games didn’t get off to the best start. After the failure of Hitman: Absolution, the studio decided to revive the franchise with the Hitman ‘World of Assassination’ trilogy.
According to an interview with Eurogamer, IO Interactive labeled their trilogy as such in order to effectively put Hitman on the shelf for now. “Right now, a great new Hitman game is kind of on hiatus,” said Christian Elverdam, creative director and co-owner of IO Interactive.
“We’re developing another fantastic agent (James Bond) who is also taking up a lot of our time. But obviously we’ll come back to our beloved Agent 47. He’s still at the heart of this business.”
So it’s lucky that Hitman 3 recently launched its huge Freelancer mode, because we won’t be getting Agent 47 for a while.
