The modder known as Block has released a public version of a mod for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord that lets you “chat” with NPCs to uncover their secrets (or just immerse yourself in the game world).
Modder says Bloc kept its word. Mount and Blade: Bannerlord II received a change allowing us to conduct conversations with “live” NPCs using artificial intelligence. The developer has also included a new video showcasing the mod in action (available below).
- Inworld Ai Mod – Calradia and Nexus Mods
We have already written about the Bloc project. As a reminder: the mod used the popular ChatGPT tool as the basis for its “narrative engine”. Its database includes data about the world of Calradia, from important places, characters and factions to professions and information about the daily life of the inhabitants.
Changes, many changes
At least that’s what happened with the preliminary version that Bloc presented at the beginning of the year. Since then, the modder has made many changes. true to its name the public version of the mod is not based on ChatGPT, but on the Inner world algorithm, It was developed for use in video games.
In practice, this results in the possibility, nomen omen, of a pragmatic use of the “chat”. During conversations with nobles or even commoners, various secrets can be discovered, as long as you conduct the conversation effectively. In this way we will know the secret activities of the nobles, but also possible conspiracies.
The “chat” with the NPCs needs some tweaking, but the design is already impressive. Source: Block / Nexus Mods / TaleWorlds.
Each noble has their own character and story, They are randomly generated at the start of the game. This is supposed to be another factor that makes every Bannerlord game different.
Of course, the main goal of the mod was to increase immersion. There’s nothing stopping us from just talking with the people of Calradia and learning more about them and the game world. For the same reason the developer has included a voice synthesizer, so that conversations are not limited to reading the chat log.
However, Inworld AI – Calradia has significant limitations, including the need for an Internet connection and the creation of an Inworld account. For the same reason, it’s best to refrain from writing vulgarities, even like a character’s name, to avoid possible problems (e.g. account ban). This can be seen as a step back from what Bloc showed in February.
Besides, the mod currently only supports English. From time to time, the AI can answer questions asked in languages like Polish or Turkish, but Inworld developers are only working on implementing other languages. Bloc also points out that the mod was not created with compatibility with other mods in mind.
Inworld AI – Calradia – installation guide
Bloc has prepared a step-by-step guide to installing the mod in the form of a video (which you can see above) and an article on Nexus mods.
- After downloading the Nexus Mods mod and unpacking the “Inworld” folder, we find the location of Mount & Blade: Bannerlord II. Copy the mod files to the “Modules” folder (“SteamsteamappscommonMount & Blade II BannerlordModules”).
If you can’t find the folder with the game: In Steam, go to your games collection and right-click on the item name. Then go to “Properties” and “Local Files” one by one, then click the “Browse” button.
- Go to Inworld official website, click “Start creating” button and select the email login option (ONLY this option; skip signing in via Google and Microsoft accounts.)
- Once logged in, create a workspace by clicking the “Edit” button on the left side of the screen, then “Create a new workspace” and “Save”.
- Open your workspace and go to the “Integrations” section and select “Generate a new key” to generate the key and the “secret”.
- In the mod folder (SteamsteamappscommonMount & Blade II BannerlordModulesInworldModRelayer), locate and open the .env file in Notepad.
- In the body of the file, enter your Inworld data, each in the appropriate section and in quotes (in order: email, Inworld login password, key, secret, and workspace name). Save changes.
The process is a bit more complicated than most mods. This may explain the relatively low number of downloads (at the time of writing less than a thousand Nexus Mods users have tested the mod).
