News of Shinji Mikami’s departure is official confirmed on Twitter by Bethesda.

As reported by TrueAchievements, Bethesda SVP Todd Vaughn allegedly sent a message to ZeniMax Media employees announcing that Shinji Mikami will leave Tango Gameworks, the studio he founded, after 12 years.

I am writing to you today to announce that Studio Director Shinji Mikami will be leaving Tango Gameworks in the coming months. Mikami-san was a creative leader and supportive mentor for young developers at Tango for 12 years, working on The Evil Within series during that time. , Ghostwire: Tokyo and, of course, Hi-Fi Rush,” the post read.

Remember that Shinji Mikami is one of the most respected developers in the video game industry. During his 33-year career, he had the opportunity to work on games from, among others, the Resident Evil or Devil May Cry series.

Recently, those who were playing Hi-Fi Rush discovered a certain easter egg, which many believe heralds the return of The Evil Within. Will Mikami’s departure affect possible work on the third installment of the well-received survival horror game (assuming the speculations are correct)? We will find out in the months to come.

As of this writing, we don’t know what direction Mikami will take after leaving his current job. However, given his vast experience, he certainly won’t complain about a lack of offers. Or maybe he will create another new studio?
