Yesterday, a streamer pulled the cruellest prank ever by temporarily fooling his audience that there was an Animal Crossing: New Horizons-related announcement at the end of February’s Nintendo Direct.
Streamer Wilbo’s World(Opens in a new tab), known for its Animal Crossing content, has gone live with its reaction to yesterday’s Nintendo Direct showcase. In the clip, which was shared by the streamer on Twitter, Wilbo reacts to the last broadcast announcement before the screen goes black and shows Judy, the villager from Animal Crossing: New Horizon, floating in space. before displaying the name of the game.
Then it gets even better, because shortly after, Wilbo’s stream showed footage of the game’s music box playing a peaceful rendition of Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up. This is when Animal Crossing resident musician KK Slider appears on screen performing a cover of the song, which is actually covered by KK Slider cover artist Clay K Slider.

Looking back, it’s very obvious from Wilbo’s reaction that it’s a joke. Almost immediately after playing the edited footage, you can see the YouTuber struggle to keep his composure as the cat seemingly takes the bait at first. However, it wasn’t long before everyone figured it out and now we can all laugh about it. Except no, we can’t, because the reality is that we don’t have anything new in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is a very hard thing to accept.
Jokes aside, this joke was brilliantly done by Wilbo’s World, and I sure would have cracked up if I watched the live stream. It’s especially painful because shortly before the Nintendo Direct’s scheduled date, several Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans hoped for some sort of announcement when it was discovered that the island escape game had received a random maintenance update just hours before. However, as we now know, this meant nothing more than routine maintenance.
However, it’s not all bad news, we found out that new Fantasy Life game that could fill the Animal Crossing: New Horizons-shaped void in our lives.
