Dark and Darker, the dark horse of Steam Next Fest, has fallen victim to hacking attacks. These caused connection problems with the servers.
Online dungeon crawler Dark and Darker proved to be the most popular game at the recent Steam Next festival. This unfortunately made the game a target for hacking attacks.
- The success of the game demo is such that the developers have decided to extend the test period until February 16.
- Unfortunately, the fun started to turn sour with more and more common problems connecting to servers.
- On the official Discord, the authors apologized for the inconvenience and reported that it was caused by hacking attacks. The developers are currently working to resolve these issues.

Attacks like this are very disappointing, as Dark and Darker proved to be the dark horse of this year’s Steam Next Fest. At the hottest moment of the Festival, more than 108,000 users played at the same time. On top of that, the demo convinced 138,000 people to add the game to their wishlists.
Given that testing will end tomorrow, it seems unlikely that the developers will be able to fully deal with hackers. One can only hope that the experience gained this time will help the authors protect the game against similar issues in the future. However, it is possible that due to these attacks, the developers decide to further expand access to the demo.
Remember that Dark and Darker is made exclusively for PC. Independent Korean studio IRONMACE is responsible for the project. The demo available during the Steam Next Fest was not the first preview of this production. Previously, they were held in September and December of last year. It should be mentioned that each subsequent test has seen increasing popularity. Alpha testing at the end of 2022 reached 69,000 concurrent users.
