Despite being an indie game, Sons of the Forest had an amazing launch as Endnight Games announced that they sold over 2 million copies of Sons of the Forest within the first 24 hours of its release. Sons of the Forest is a horror and survival game set on an island infested with cannibals, just like The Forest, but this time it is possible to play alone or with friends thanks to its online multiplayer up to 8 players. Since we just saw its Early Access release, Sons of the Forest is still in development and will continue to receive updates until it is ready for official release.
Via its Twitter account, indie studio Endnight Games announced that Sons of the Forest sold over 2 million copies in its first 24 hours on Steam and thanked everyone who joined its Early Access. The team also said they’re excited about what they’re planning for the next few weeks, though they haven’t yet said what content will be coming to Sons of the Forest next.
Sons of the Forest is currently the best-selling game on Steam, so it will be interesting to see if it maintains its position on the weekly sales chart that SteamDB publishes every Sunday. For the past 6 weeks, Hogwarts Legacy has remained the bestseller and the top 4 have been through its pre-sales, making it the first big release of 2023 and it could lose its streak through indie play.
As well as having a strong launch, Sons of the Forest grew its concurrent player count on Steam over the weekend, hitting over 260,000 players on day one and breaking its record just an hour ago. , recording 411,999 concurrent players.
