Sons of the Forest is an unfinished game, currently in early access, and because of this, it sometimes experiences absurd situations caused by the various shortcomings.
Sons of the Forest turned out to be a huge success, as evidenced by the fact that within the first 24 hours of its release, developers Endnight Games sold over 2 million copies of the game. The title is extremely popular, although there are plenty of in-game glitches due to early access. Some of them are so absurd that it is worth taking a closer look.
What does early access mean?
Before summing up some of the strange situations that I have witnessed, I must state once again that the game is in early access phase and is not finished yet. This is where the bugs, shortcomings or, sometimes, the low level of AI of our partner Kelvin, which I was writing about recently, begin. Therefore, you must take into account that the game is simply not over. After starting it, in the upper left corner of the main menu, there is information that the next major update will appear in 9 days..
Weapon display animation
In Sons of the Forest we can use different types of weapons, from axes to spears and bows to firearms. After acquiring a weapon, it automatically lands in our backpack. When we first equip it, our character will start looking at it from different angles.. The problem is that the animation can’t be interrupted, and sometimes that’s why the situation shown in the video above can happen, when the player has to defend himself from an attack with a weapon, but doesn’t. not, because his character he decided to admire the beauty of the weapon instead of using it for self-defense. Pro tip for the future: After finding the weapon, look at it right away so that later in the game you won’t be disturbed by the animation.
Kelvin drops first
Kelvin is a good whoop. He will cut down a tree with his axe, then carry the entire huge trunk on his own shoulders. So we have the image of a strong man who is not afraid of anything, right? The problem is that our partner is either a coward or a pacifist, and runs from enemies instead of defending himself.
It’s even stranger because in the game we will also meet Virginia, a woman with three arms and three legs, who at first is afraid of our character and avoids her. However, if we give her a break and don’t approach her with a gun in hand, she will eventually change her mind, stop running and we can give you a gun or even a shotgun, making her a terror of the island. I hope that in the future the developers will allow Kelvin to use weapons and that the companion will be more than a practical beef.
a cure for everything
Attacked by enemies? Take a pill. Fell from a height and barely survived? The pills will help you recover. Luckily for our castaway, the island is one big pharmacy, as medicine can be found in many places, such as containers and caves scattered around the area. So far I’m having a great time at Sons of the Forest, but I can’t hide the fact that Seems to me the focus on survival is lackingfor the only danger I sense is served by enemies, from whom it is, however, comparatively easy to escape.
Food at every stage
You might think that a person who barely survived a helicopter crash and finds themselves in a very hostile environment would quickly starve to death. Couldn’t be further from the truth. Food is plentiful here, and the animals sometimes seem to have a death wish.. After sleeping by the lake, I noticed several turtles roaming around me. On the beach, we very often encounter seagulls, they are just waiting for us to throw weapons at them, and if by some miracle our pantry remains empty, all we have to do is ask Kelvin to catch a few (tens) of fish. We are therefore not in danger of starvation, but of obesity..
So far, for me, Sons of the Forest is not the best survival game, because I’m used to the difficulties that my darling The Long Dark put me through, but I don’t hide the fact that despite early access and lots of shortcomings, I’m having a great time.. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t expecting anything in particular and haven’t played The Forest since 2018, or maybe it’s because I love walking through the woods, chopping down trees, and building. wooden houses.
