Saints Row Reboot Sales failed and now the franchise’s future looks uncertain. Intellectual property owner Embracer Group has previously acknowledged the game’s lackluster critical and commercial reception, but this is the first time it has admitted the reboot underperformed with a “below average” ROI.
Saints Row reboot changed the way Embracer greenlights games
In its third quarter 2022 financial report published yesterday, Embracer Group revealed that following disappointing performance of its console and PC games, the company has changed its policy to green light new projects. While it didn’t single out Saints Row specifically, Embracer made it clear that going forward, “every project must earn its right to exist,” leaving a question mark over the future of the series.
Embracer Group gobbled up a number of gaming companies and IP addresses, but had little to no success with them. The company acknowledged that it needed to “put quality first” and deliver “unique and positive experiences for gamers”.
We have increased management focus and efforts to further optimize investment and efficiency across the group. To keep it simple, every project must earn its right to exist, which means we’ll work harder to prioritize quality and ensure we create unique and positive experiences for players.
Embracer did not reveal how many copies Saints Row shipped.
