Risk of Rain 2 is one of the greatest indie successes of all time. There are plenty of survivors to play that you normally unlock by completing in-game challenges. Some players have figured out how to unlock all characters in a very cheeky way.

Now all characters have their little challenges to unlock them, but while we were working hard, someone was working smart. It seems to be a legacy problem from the original Risk of Rain, which was a well-documented way to unlock things in the game. Here’s what you need to know about the not-so-hidden cheat to unlock all characters in Risk of Rain 2.

Unlock all Risk of Rain 2 character cheats

To unlock all characters in Risk of Rain 2, you must first follow the steps below:

  1. First, make sure you are NOT running Risk of Rain 2 right now. Otherwise, the files you need to access will be locked.
  2. Navigate to the steam folder in your program files.
  3. From there go to User data. There should be only one folder here corresponding to your user ID.
  4. Click on it, then go to the folder 632360.
  5. Enter the Remote file, then the user profiles case. Here there should be a single XML document. Back up by creating a copy on your desktop, just in case something goes wrong.
  6. Open the XML file using Notepad, then scroll down. Once you’ve played and unlocked an item, it should be easy to see where the unlocks are saved. You will see lines of code starting with .

You want to copy one of the following lines of code for each character you haven’t unlocked yet. In this case, “Toolbot” is for MUL-T and “Mage” is for Artificer. Be sure that insert the lines of code between the last line there .

Save the file after inserting the codes, then launch the game. The characters should be unlocked for you.

This cheat is not what the developers intended, and the usual caveats about the cheat being rude apply. However, if the developers haven’t bridged the gap between this game and this one, that might not be something they have a problem with.
