The previously announced League of Legends-inspired MMO is still in “early development” as the project’s lead producer leaves Riot Games after nearly a decade at the LoL studio. Following this, Riot Games President Marc ‘Tryndamere’ Merrill provided an update on the MMO, explaining where it is in development.
This statement from Merrill comes after Greg Street, producer of the upcoming MMO League of Legends, announced he was leaving Riot (and thus the MMO League) after nine years with the company. “The MMO is in good hands and the time has come to hand over the reins to the next phase,” says Street. It looks like the MOBA world is going to get a whole lot bigger.
Very little is known about the League of Legends MMO at this point, but it will join Ruined King, impending release date Mageseeker and free-to-play fighting game Project L as a LoL spin-off.
Now, at least, we have a little more paint on the canvas, as Riot Games President Marc Merrill explains where development stands and what the team plans to do after Street leaves.
“First of all, we’re still in the early stages of development, but we have a direction we’re very excited about,” Merrill says. “We work hard to deliver an experience you’ll love. (But it will still be a very long way to get there, thank you for being patient with us).
“We believe in this game and the team working on it. If we think of development as a race, Greg had an incredible first stint with an incredible team, and I know whoever takes over next will be ready for the next one. future success.
Riot’s faith in the MMO LoL seems to have changed, as Street previously said there was “no guarantee this game will ever be released”, and while Merrill makes it clear that the game is still in its early stages, the The team always expresses its confidence in Lol. MMO at this point.
There were also no promises regarding the LoL MMO’s release date or gameplay reveal, and the focus on “early development” means we’ll all have to wait a bit longer to see the spin-off. off of League of Legends in action.
