Actor Jeremy Irvine has been chosen for the Back to the movie Silent Hill as James Sunderland, who also happens to be the lead in Silent Hill 2. Actress Hannah Emily Anderson has also been cast in the film, presumably as Mary, but it’s unclear what her name will be in this horror reboot.
The plot of Return to Silent Hill will follow Silent Hill 2
As noted by Deadline, the story of Return to Silent Hill will be more or less directly adapted from the classic Silent Hill 2, originally released for PlayStation 2 in 2001. Jeremy Irvine, an English actor who some may recognize from his work on War Horse (2011) and the TV series Treadstone (2021) from Jason Bourne’s world, will play James, who receives a strange letter from “his one true love” that leads him to Silent Hill.
Director Christophe Gans, who helmed the original Silent Hill, describes the film as “a mythological love story” and reveals that some of the game’s iconic monsters will be reimagined with “new designs”. He hopes Return to Silent Hill and the Silent Hill 2 remake will “propel the franchise forward”. Filming will begin in April in Germany and Eastern Europe.
Gans revealed he was working on a Silent Hill movie in February 2020, and even revealed that Konami was working on multiple Silent Hill games prior to its announcement. It probably took that long for the film to start production, as Konami wanted this film and the new Silent Hill games to “help with marketing and engagement” with each other.
