An animated ad for Capcom’s upcoming release Resident Evil 4 remake remakes a classic on its own. New Resident Evil 4 anime promo is a short clip featuring Leon and the Ganados. Called Resident Evil Masterpiece Theatre, evokes the animation style and aesthetic of old classic anime series, like that of Nippon Animation World Masterpiece Theater or Studio Ghibli movies.

In the clip, Leon tries to ask some villagers where Ashley is, but experiences the culture shock of her life (and death). In addition to Ganados, Ashley and Leon, a few other characters from Resident Evil 4 appear in the short anime clip. These include Tusks’ tentacle dog, an ax-wielding cultist with his tentacles around his neck, the Garrador claw-wielding villain, and even the notorious Chainsaw Man. The episode even ends with a cheeky message from the sponsor using the familiar format for many people who watch anime episodes TV shows.
He Resident Evil 4 The anime clip was produced by Nippon Animation itself and recalls a series of stylistic keys from Theater of the masterpieces of the world. These include the ornate title card, the title itself: Bio-Meisaku Gekijou (Bio-Masterpiece Theater) in Japanese, and the rounded, kid-friendly character designs. World Masterpiece Theater was a basic anime series from the Showa era and early Heisei era in Japan, which ran continuously from 1969 to 1997 (with a rerun from 2007 to 2009). Produced by the Mushi Production studio and then by Nippon Animation, the series adapts famous books or stories once a year. Adapted works include stories such as Tom Sawyer, Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, Princess Sarah, there Heidi. Famous anime creators like Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata also worked on the series.
