He PS5 Hours of Play Feature it has been given more prominence but, despite numerous firmware updates, it remains inaccurate. It’s unclear how Sony’s system calculates playtime, and some fans believe PSN connectivity has a role to play.
March 2023 Firmware Update Made PS5 ‘Hours Of Play’ More Visible
Earlier this week, Sony released a major PS5 firmware update, where a game’s playtime hours can be viewed on the main dashboard when players hover their mouse over the icon or the game thumbnail. Fans immediately noticed the counter was broken, with some claiming that connecting to PSN makes the counter more accurate.
I’m always connected to PSN when playing games, including single player titles. According to Sony, I played nine hours at Hogwarts Legacy but I’m well below. The system further shows that I spent 18 hours playing A Plague Tale: Requiem, which is also a far cry from the time I spent beating it.
Interestingly, Sony’s year-end PS4-era roundups were also quite wrong when it came to showing hours played. The feature isn’t entirely new to this generation, but it’s only grown in importance now.
Personally, it’s not a deal breaker for me, but it’s kind of annoying to have something inaccurate staring at me.
