The PS5 today receives update 7.0, which contains among other things the integration of Discord or the Variable Refresh Rate for 1440p.

Rumors of the imminent arrival of Discord on PS5 have been circulating for several months. Back in August, there were the first reports of such an update, while things started looking up earlier this year, in the month of February. Finally, the latest information from Insider Gaming turned out to be true: Indeed, Discord is available today on PS5, thanks to the 7.0 update that Sony has just implemented.. So what can we expect from this integration and what else is new in this update?

Discord on PS5, that’s it! (Eventually)

As a reminder, Discord is a voice and text chat service, acclaimed mainly by gamers before benefiting from more general (and sometimes even professional) use since the Covid-19 crisis. The arrival of the service on PS5 is therefore excellent news, since it now allows a stronger link between communities via the Sony console.. Additionally, in addition to the ability to chat with your Discord friends directly through the PS5, this update also enables various social features:

  • ability to share your screen and see a friend’s screen live
  • a new “Join game” icon offers the possibility to join the game of friends in real time
  • ability to manually upload screenshots through the Playstation app

On the other hand, in addition to the news that Discord brings, this 7.0 update brings VRR support (variable refresh rate) for 1440p displays). Sony has also improved the ability to access PS4 save data through the PS5. Data transfer between two PS5s has also been improved. In short, a very nice update for all happy PS5 owners!
