This 3D Visual Novel fully translated into French, perfectly combines a soothing atmosphere with its French charm and a dramatic story that tackles difficult real-life themes. It turns out to be a unique and captivating but confusing experience, which everyone can interpret in their own way according to their own personal experience. Colgante entorno 5h, the shipwreck will play with your emotions in a maduro and healthy way, to leave you on a positive note, like therapy.
The subtle balance between drama and serenity
the shipwreck is a narrative game from the Parisian studio The Pixel Hunt, whose story takes place in France and retraces the life of Juno, a thirty-something on the brink of the abyss and broken by her past, who must once again face a difficult event. Her mother – with whom she is in conflict – was admitted to intensive care following a stroke, it is then to Juno that the heavy responsibility of making the medical decisions concerning her falls.
From the start, I was seduced by the atmosphere of The shipwreck. The very weak or even absent animations and the floating texts on the screen give a interactive photo novel effect which reminded me a lot of as dusk falls. The soft colors and music, as well as the many light effects offer a peaceful and comforting atmosphere that contrasts quite well with the seriousness of the status.. France is honored and is an integral part of the story and the artistic direction through numerous references in the sets, the script, but also in the dubbing. In fact, it is important to note that the game does not have VFit is dubbed only in original version by French actors who voluntarily base their accent on certain words, first names… I really liked this touch of humor and lightness which contrasts once again with the events and reinforces the French identity already well presented.
Soothe ailments with words
the full potential of the shipwreck lies in its story and the direct impact it can have on players by addressing sensitive real-life topics. Like illness, bereavement, toxic relationships, to name a few and letting you discover others on your own. These themes are always treated in a very mature and benevolent way, with a lot of realism thanks to careful staging and excellent narration. This brings seriousness and credibility to this work. This then makes it possible to feel a strong emotional connection with the different characters as well as the story and therefore be influenced by our experience regarding the choices to be made throughout the adventure. Indeed, the different themes evoked in the game can easily echo your own “traumas” as they are unfortunately common over the course of a lifetime… the shipwreck is therefore a unique, touching and memorable experience that plays with our emotions and can act as a kind of personal development if we are receptive to this approach. This is something that I really appreciated and which shows once again that video games can have real therapeutic benefits for certain people (to a lesser extent, of course, this does not replace appropriate medical monitoring) .
Great qualities but not except flaws
the shipwreck propose a simplistic gameplay inspired by life is strange based on time management, and even if the concept is original, it gets repetitive very quickly. You relive events from the past by interacting only with words and always the few identical objects that lead you into Juno’s memories, which are also interactive (and repetitive…). The different branches and choices to be made are imposed and unfortunately not at all impactingthey don’t influence the course of the story, or even the ending. And that’s a shame, because the topics covered lent themselves perfectly and could have made the outcome more striking. In addition, the game offers a replayability that is totally useless given its lack of impact in terms of choices. The only interest in rerolling chapters consists in obtaining missed ciertos éxitos if you wish to obtain 100%.
And to conclude, I would like to point out that I had to deal with very many frozewhich forced me to restart the game regularly. So I had to restart my progress several times since the last save (and they are rare). The title was not yet released at the time of the test, it is very likely that it will be corrected at the moment you read these lines.
I appreciate:
- The maturity of the title
- real life themes
- the general atmosphere
- The real possible impact on the player
I least liked :
- the bugs
- Choices that are not
