Launched at the end of last year, Razer’s Hammerhead Hyperspeed earphones collocate in an uncommon niche for this type of product. In-ear Bluetooth, compatible audio devices, in this version of Xbox, included in consoles and PC. Coupled with a generous autonomy, they offer adaptability to all connections without however being exposed to a few faults.
A presentation on and effectiveness
The most striking impression that emerges when unboxing the Razer Hammerhead is the care given by the brand to its product. Opening the rectangular box reveals the case containing the headphones. Below, find the usual connectors with a braided USB-A to USB-C cable and another braided USB-A male to USB-A female. Both come with small caps on the Hyperspeed connection module as well as a set of ear tips in two sizes. We find the color code of the brand with a dominance of black and green on the inside of the case and even on the plug of the cables. A premium effect that hints at a similar experience on audio. No detail has been left out!
Comparativo de otros auriculares intraauriculares del mercado, the housing of the Razer Hammerhead is larger than that of the AirPods Gen 1 that I have on hand. Medium ambient, 25% bigger. Razer obliged, found the brand’s RGB touch with attached stickers and especially the Chroma technology on the headphones themselves.
From good ideas to fruition
Addressed the technological part of the device. In terms of earphones, Razer has a noise activated reduction (ANC), a dual microphone with ambient noise reduction, compatibility with Bluetooth 5.2 and a battery life of up to 30 hours with the case. In fact, I managed to reach this threshold without any problem. The set is configurable from the application razer-audioto download in Google Store or in Apple Store. This offers several additional settings such as an equalizer, ANC adjustment, an NPD mode coupled with game mode to be at the heart of your sessions as well as the choice of the Chroma effect. The application is intuitive and responds well. The earbuds also have touch functionality. Indeed, depending on the number of presses made, several actions are available to you: pause, go to the next track, adjust the volume, change mode (Bluetooth/Hyperspeed), etc…
On the audio aspect, the general impression is mixed. In fact, after more weeks to use the Razer Hammerhead in different outdoor living situations (in the house, in the transports, in the console, in the conferencia de visión, etc.), the hijo se entrega is rather good with a fairly faithful reproduction of treble and bajos. Don’t expect an audiófilo experience though. On several occasions, I had to readjust the earphones which moved by the simple movement of the muscles, etc., despite a change of emout to adapt them to my morphology. A laugh, too marked a support on one leg while walking, a frase pronunciada too long and… ¡HOP! The headset was no longer well positioned. Too bad, because it creates a loss of insulation and therefore of sound reproduction.
Xbox compatibility that works when it wants
Another component that could blow both hot and cold: Xbox Connectivity. The Hyperspeed dongle is compatible with Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, including with Sony and PC consoles, specifically with this verde version. In the direction of the branch in the console al means of the cable provided then the connection is made via the application on the Xbox Store. And that’s where the problems started. Suddenly, the sound is present in both earpieces. The next second, more than one headset out of the two receiving the signal. Flauta. Another time, the sound works, but the microphone is not perceived in a group of friends. Flauta again. The next time, the headphones are no longer detected by the application. Fate persists. To date, I have only managed once to have the sound and the microphone functional at the same time. Difficult to know if the problem comes from the application, the dongle or directly from the headphones. A firmware or app update may fix these issues.
In terms of microphone quality, it is difficult for the Razer Hammerheads to compete with the boom-sticks of traditional headsets. However, the people I have played with have all confirmed to me intelligibly as “in a bubble”. Clarity remains there and that is the most important thing.
I appreciate:
- build quality
- touch controls
- Autonomy of 30H+
- Decent sound quality
I least liked :
- soundproofing
- random sync
- El Xbox dongle not very aesthetic
- The price (€179.99) of versatility
