There were already initial indications that the release of the action role-playing game Path of Exile 2 will no longer be expected in the course of this year.

But hope in this regard was not completely dead – at least until now. Because recently there was a large live stream with the developer studio Grinding Gear Games, which also focused on the second episode of Path of Exile. The producer Chris Wilson went into the release topic.

He quickly made it clear that a release of Path of Exile 2 in the course of this year was definitely excluded. There is also a very specific reason for this: the development of the action role-playing game is further behind the original schedule than previously feared due to the continuing rampant corona pandemic and its effects on the industry.

Although production is now picking up speed again and again, the development of the new campaign, for example, is not even half finished. Therefore, the game will definitely not be launched until next year. However, a specific date has not yet been set.

Not afraid of Diablo 4?

During the livestream, Wilson was not concerned that the release of Path of Exile 2 is getting closer to the release window of Diablo 4 – certainly its biggest competitor – due to this shift. According to Wilson, there is enough space for both games. In addition, the release of Diablo 4 is a great thing for the entire genre and will move it forward.
