A former developer of retro studio expressed disappointment with a skin from the new Metroid Prime Remasteredcommenting on the lack of credits for himself and the other original developers.
The remastered version made a surprise appearance earlier this month, where it was unveiled during the February 2023 Nintendo Direct before announcing its release the same day after the presentation ended.
This remaster has garnered a lot of praise, not only for updating one of the most beloved games in Metroid history, but also for doing more than just a visual update. That being said, a former developer of the game criticized certain aspects of Metroid Prime Remastered.
These reviews come from Zoid Kirsch, programmer and senior gameplay engineer at Retro Studios for the first two Metroid Prime games. He left the studio when the third game was in development and retired from the industry in 2021.
Today, he shares stories about the development of the games he worked on, like the game’s speedrun after it went gold. He also commented on the recent Metroid Prime Remastered, expressing his disappointment at the practice of excluding him and the original developers from the end credits.
In a tweet posted by Kirsch, he said that while he appreciated the number of studios that helped remaster Metroid Prime, he was “disappointed” that the remaster didn’t include the game’s full original credits.
He noted that he worked with a lot of people to make the game what it was, and they all deserved to be in the remaster. He thinks there had to be more than just the credits message that briefly describes that it was based on the work of the original.
