Game news Astral Chain “is the intellectual property of Nintendo,” says PlatinumGames

A few months ago, several Internet users noticed the disappearance of PlatinumGames in the legal notices of the official site of Astral Chain, an action game released only on Switch in August 2019. The VGC site inquired with the Japanese studio in order to learn more about what it means.

Previously, PlatinumGames and Nintendo shared the intellectual property of Astral Chain. In an interview dating from february 2020, the studio did not rule out the possibility of seeing the game released on platforms other than the Switch. The situation seems to have changed today: Atsushi Inaba, boss of PlatinumGames, suggests in the columns of VGC that the license now belongs entirely to Nintendo.

This is as it is written on the website: Astral Chain is their intellectual property and, as such, we believe there are limits to what we can say about this.

VGC then tried to get more details, but a spokesperson for PlatinumGames responded that the studio was unable to answer questions. The future of Astral Chain therefore seems to be fully in Nintendo’s hands. As a reminder, the title exceeded PlatinumGames’ expectations in terms of sales with just over a million copies sold worldwide, according to the latest figure released (March 31, 2020).

Strengthened economically by the arrival of Tencent in its capital at the beginning of 2020, the studio is now pursuing the ambition to develop and publish its own games (Project GG) while continuing to work for partners (Babylon’s Fall with Square Enix, Bayonetta 3 with Nintendo).
