Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser has commented on the decision to price The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at $70.
The news of the cost of the game has been a big topic of discussion recently. This is the first time Nintendo has released a $70 title; their previous versions cost $60, with some costing less than that.
We received a general response from Nintendo at the time with the company stating that pricing is determined on a case-by-case basis. However, Bowser has now expanded things a bit further.
Talk with The Associated Press, he said:
“We look at what the game has to offer. I think fans will find it an incredibly comprehensive and deeply immersive experience. The price reflects the kind of experience fans can expect when it comes to playing this particular game. This is not a price level that we will necessarily have on all of our titles. It’s actually a pretty common pricing model, whether here, in Europe, or in other parts of the world, where the price can vary depending on the game itself.”
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches on Switch on May 12, 2023. At $130 collector’s edition It is also expected to contain an artbook with concept art, a steel case, an Iconart steel poster and a set of four badges.
