Actually, the issue of defective graphics cards seemed to have long since been shelved due to too high FPS in the fantasy MMO New World. Amazon quickly implemented an FPS limiter.

After some guesswork as to what could have led to the failures and damage to several Nvidia Geforce RTX 3090s, the manufacturer EVGA commented and gave specific reasons.

Again defective graphics cards from New World?

Now reports are increasing again about defective graphics cards by New World: This time, however, it does not seem that the RTX 3090 is predominantly affected, but a wide range of AMD and Nvidia models, as reported by the well-known tech youtuber JayzTwoCents.

Accordingly, the models should be AMD Radeon RX 590, RX 6800, RX 6800 XT, RX 6900 XT and from Nvidia the Geforces RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3090 be affected by shutdowns and failures.

So again, the problem definitely has something to do with the way New World renders images.

When the first defective graphics cards were reported during the closed beta of New World, JayzTwoCents had already suspected Amazon and at least partially blamed the damage. Hardware editor Nils Raettig also saw Amazon’s responsibility.

What leads to the defects?

It is not clear what exactly leads to the defects that are supposed to occur. As Golem reports, the frame rate, which is actually limited to 60 FPS, can be significantly exceeded in the menus and the server queue. However, we cannot reproduce that on our test system: Regardless of whether it is in the menu or in the queue, there are always 60 FPS.

The Reddit user LuckyPh1L also reports a defective graphics card from New World. His Gigaybte Geforce RTX 3080 Ti Eagle 12GB broke after first making the graphics settings, deactivating the in-game FPS limiter and then restarting the game.

But: The FPS in the menu should not be affected because Amazon has set a hard limit here that cannot be overridden by the graphics settings.

What do you all mean? Do you even think that there is again damage to graphics cards in connection with New World? And if so, do you see Amazon’s responsibility? Feel free to write it in the comments!
