NCSOFT showcased its digital human technology with the trailer for Project M in the Game Developers Conference 2023 (GDC)which is currently taking place in San Francisco, California.
On March 22, NCSOFT revealed the video at State of Unreal, the inaugural session of epic games at the GDC organized to present new Unreal Engine tools and technologies in collaboration with its partners. Songyee Yoon, Chief Strategy Officer of NCSOFT, took the stage to introduce the company’s latest project, Project M, and its trailer.
In this trailer, a digital human version of NCSOFT’s creative directorTaekjin Kim, would appear on screen and guide viewers through the world of Project M and its gameplay.
This digital human was developed using its own AI Technology of NCSOFT combined with its advanced artistic and graphics capabilities. The voice of the digital human in the trailer was generated from the text-to-speech technology (TTS) the company. It is used to translate textual information into natural human speech that reflects a given person’s voice, accent, and emotions.
There digital human facial expression and lip sync they were generated using the company’s voice-to-face technology. It is an AI-based facial animation technology that automatically produces facial animations corresponding to the given text or voice. AI technology, combined with the company’s visual technologies, created the realistic facial appearance of the digital human.

Project M, running on Unreal Engine 5, is dedicated to integrating realistic graphics based on its advanced 3D scanning, motion capture and VFX (visual effects) technology.
