GTA 6 will probably be a long time coming. In spite of this, or perhaps because of it, many fans fervently hope that we will get an announcement of the next Rockstar game sooner rather than later. There is currently another discussion that Grand Theft Auto 6 could be unveiled soon.
However, you shouldn’t rejoice too early: In the following article we clarify what exactly happened and why fans shouldn’t necessarily expect a potential GTA 6 reveal.
Where the new GTA 6 speculations are coming from
What happened? In the GTAForums, the established industry insider Tez2 already in mid-March noticed a discovery: A page is currently available on the official Rockstar Newswire website that is empty or shows an error code. Tez2 explicitly states that Rockstar “skipped an article” and that it could mean all or nothing.
This discovery is interesting in that the GTA and Red Dead developer makes most of the in-house announcements through this website. Therefore, the speculation that Rockstar is planning an announcement for the coming weeks or is simply currently preparing an article is not too far-fetched.
In view of this, it is also not surprising that some fans naturally hope for a potential announcement of GTA 6. These speculations were spurred on by an addendum from Tez2 that something should happen soon that has nothing to do with GTA Online.
And the rather large, if not always reliable YouTuber MrBossFTW connected the discovery with GTA 6 at the end of March.
Does this really have anything to do with GTA 6? That the Rockstar Newswire site actually has something to do with GTA 6 is pure speculation at the moment and is probably based largely on the wishful thinking of many fans.
Because that something will happen to a potential successor to Grand Theft Auto 5 in the foreseeable future is rather unlikely.
According to various insiders, GTA 6 will probably be a long time coming. So we shouldn’t expect an announcement or disclosure anytime soon.
Which is more likely? It cannot be ruled out that Rockstar will announce something in the foreseeable future. However, there are a few options that are far more likely than a GTA 6 reveal. Especially the NextGen version of GTA 5 or the standalone version of GTA Online promised for the second half of 2021, the chances are much better.
