Monster Hunter Rise beginner’s guide with action-adventure tips for Nintendo Switch. Even if the game already provides a lot of help to take you by the hand and explain mechanics, there are still certain features and little tricks that can easily be overlooked.
Some of the tips that are mentioned here may already be known to long-time fans of the series, but others are Rise-exclusive and also help the veterans among you. After the hunt is before the hunt: preparation
- In Monster Hunter, preparation is just as important as the hunt itself. It starts in the options menu: Many of the settings are purely a matter of preference, but it is helpful to set the camera distance to the maximum in order to have a better overview of what is happening at all times. This is also helpful when exploring, not just in combat.
- Speaking of struggle to make your life easier and to be able to react quickly, you should pack the most important items directly into the cake menu via the start menu. So you can select items directly using analog sticks without having to dig around in your object bag forever.
- Also important: If you never want to have too few armor balls, you should stop by the quest counter regularly and accept optional tasks. You will always be able to strengthen your armor with their rewards.
- Furthermore, you shouldn’t forget to stop by the Dango booth before each quest. This gives you more maximum health and stamina for the coming battle. In addition, the Japanese delicacies can provide you with different skills. And you should definitely include the dango trainer in your mix. Through it, your companions, who you take with you on the quest, will reach a higher level faster. This is useful not only for combat, but also for other areas of the game in which they are used.
A kind of education: companion
- Not only can you command the two companions that you initially create yourself, you are also able to hire new buddies. You should tackle this right at the beginning of your hunting career, because the more capable your buddies become, the better and more items you can get from them. So it is best to hire 15-20 companions as early as possible.
- Send as many buddies as possible to the dojo so they can quickly level up. As soon as possible, you should also always send the strongest buddies to the Argosy to get items that you need in large numbers. The most important resource is honey, with which you can assemble your mega potions. There are also various items to buy here after each quest. Above all, it is very useful to be able to acquire various traps and other help items such as lightning bombs. Annoying spider web farming is a thing of the past.
- But be careful: the items at the traveling merchant cost Kamura points. You get these from quests, from hidden locations that you find, or as collectibles on the map. Normal potions, on the other hand, can easily be bought with normal money. The best thing to do is to wait until the special offer is displayed at the dealer after a quest, who always offers all his items at half the price. Cover yourself with a few hundred potions here, you can’t go wrong with that.
During the hunt: fight and explore
- Even if it seems tempting, you shouldn’t always touch the cards on the back of your palamut. This is how you miss the mountains of the game world, which are often lunatic. These increase your values as long as you are in a quest. You will also find hidden artifacts there, which provide an incredible amount of Kamura points.
- If you want to reach particularly high scenes, you should use the rope with LZ + X, so you have shorter cooldowns on the beetle and can theoretically climb infinitely high.
- The palamut is very helpful in other ways as well. If the immobility when sharpening your weapon annoyed you in previous titles, you can quickly jump onto the back of your palamut during combat to sharpen your weapon while riding. So you can dodge attacks while sharpening and don’t have to withdraw from the fight.
- If you are in a hurry, you should use the “Drift” on LZ while riding the Palamut. Even if you just run straight ahead, you are much faster than with simple sprints.
- A small but nice feature, which makes the entire gameplay smoother and more pleasant, is the quick restoration of the balance after a hit with LZ + B. Once you’ve internalized this new ability, you’ll never want to play a Monster Hunter without it again!
- The last and very effective tip that we have for you relates to riding the monsters. If you hit with enough rope attacks or attacks in the air, you will be able to ride a monster. Bosses who are not the main target of the quest are very sensitive to such attacks. Just a few blows and you can step on them. Since the stamina bar hardly empties for riding (at least if we are not hit), we monsters can often ride halfway across the map into battle to do a lot of damage to our actual enemy.
