Super Nintendo World is Big N’s take on theme parks, in partnership with Universal of course, but it’s easy to see just how Mario-focused Mario is. Shigeru Miyamoto has now ruled on this decision.
In an interview with Polygon, Miyamoto shared that other IP addresses for Super Nintendo World such as Splatoon are being considered. However, in the end, the decision was made to “start with something targeted” because “it would be easier”.
Miyamoto’s full words:
“There was a discussion about adding other IPs there, like Splatoon. But instead of having our focus scattered, we thought it would be easier to start with something focused. That’s why we ended up starting with Mario, however, due to this backdrop, if you notice it, you may be able to find other IPs scattered around the world, so I encourage you to check it out. “
As Miyamoto teased, there are other Nintendo elements in the theme park, like Pikmin, popping up here and there. We also know that, at least in Japan, there are plans for future Donkey Kong expansion. you can read about it here.
Super Nintendo World is now open at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Japan. There will also be locations in Orlando and Singapore at a later date.
