Shigeru Miyamoto He is one of the most influential figures in video game history. Without him, we wouldn’t have Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox or Pikmin. Despite his many years of hard work, Miyamoto still wants to work.
But let’s be real, there will come a day when he will hang up his red cap forever. For some, this may seem like a day that will shake Nintendo to its foundations, but for Miyamoto himself, things might not change all that much at the company.
“I really don’t think that’s going to change,” Miyamoto told NPR. “It’s probably going to be the same. There’s, you know, members of the management team, creators within the company, and also people who work on Mario with passion, they all have this sense of what it means to be Nintendo.”
“Even when new ideas arise,” he continued. “There’s always the fact that it’s a new idea, but also the fact that, is it a new idea that really has the essence of Nintendo or not?”
Currently, Miyamoto is still involved in numerous Nintendo projects, such as the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie, which will be released in just over a month, or Pikmin 4, which is coming this summer. The idea of Miyamoto not being involved in anything at Nintendo seems very strange, but it’s likely to come true at some point.
